The Maryland Longitudinal Data System (MLDS) is a statewide data system that contains data on students, their involvement with child and youth services, and their workforce outcomes. The MLDS Center primarily collects the data from other Maryland state agencies:
- Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE)
- Maryland Department of Labor
- Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC)
- Maryland Department of Juvenile Services (DJS)
- Maryland Department of Human Services (DHS)
- Maryland Health Care Boards
- The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration
The MLDS Center also receives data from a few non-state agency sources. For example, the Center receives data from Microsoft on recipients of Microsoft certifications. The Center is working with other private external national certifiers to include their data in the MLDS.
All data received by the MLDS Center are first reviewed and approved by the MLDS Center Governing Board before being added to the MLDS Data Inventory. Each data sharing agency and private organization also has a data sharing agreement with the Center that outlines the Center’s responsibility for maintaining the data consistent with state and federal regulations that govern those data.
