Student FAFSA Completion Report

The Student FAFSA Completion Report is submitted pursuant to Education Article § 7-212, Annotated Code of Maryland, which requires the MLDS Center to annually produce, on or before December 15th of each year, beginning in 2023 and ending in 2028, a report on the submission and completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by Maryland high school students.

Dual Enrollment Reports

From 2013 to 2022, the Maryland Longitudinal Data System Center was required to produce a written Dual Enrollment report. This requirement was eliminated during the 2023 legislative session and replaced with the requirement to maintain a set of dashboards on dual enrollment. The dashboards are updated annually and can be found here: https://mldscenter.maryland.gov/Dashboards.html

The Center will continue producing the Dual Enrollment Course and Credits analysis until such time as the analysis can be included in the existing dual enrollment dashboards.

Annual Report on the Workforce Outcomes of Maryland Public High School Graduates

The Career Preparation Expansion Act (CPEA), Chapter 695 of 2018 (see Education Article § 21-206, Annotated Code of Maryland) requires the Maryland Longitudinal Data System (MLDS) Center and the Governor's Workforce Development Board (GWDB) to jointly produce an annual report on the workforce outcomes of high school graduates five-years after graduation. In addition to reporting on workforce outcomes, each report contains a special supplement focused on outcomes such as college enrollment patterns, college affordability, wage variations by demographic or economic group, and other topics.

Evidence of Brain Gain and Regain in Maryland

In 2018, the MLDS Center Research Branch completed a report on brain drain in Maryland. That report concluded that Maryland public high school students who attended college out-of-state were less likely to return to the Maryland workforce when compared to students who attended college in-state. However, brain drain is only one part of the equation. Maryland also has the opportunity for brain gain and regain. Maryland can combat "brain drain" by retaining the 76,000 out-of-state students who study at Maryland higher education institutions each fall and by attracting back the 10,000 Maryland public high school graduates who enroll in college out-of-state each year.

Annual Report on Progress in Increasing the Preparation and Diversity of Teacher Candidates and New Teachers

The Blueprint for Maryland's Future, Chapter 33 of 2022 (see Education Article § 5-413, Annotated Code of Maryland) requires the Maryland Longitudinal Data System (MLDS) Center, in consultation with the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) to produce an annual report on the progress made in increasing the preparation and diversity of teacher candidates and new teachers in the State as required by the Blueprint for Maryland's Future.
